Had Navin Kanodia followed his first love, he would have been a musician. That he is an entrepreneur dedicated to making your home a better place may have been music’s loss, but no one’s really complaining. Born in Kolkata, and having studied in Bangalore, Kanodia came back to the city to make a mark for himself in what he calls “providing interior solutions”.
“Spacio is a one-stop store where you get basic furniture, accessories, artifacts and almost every item of home decor,” he says. About 15 years back, while on an overseas trip, Kanodia got to learn where modern furniture was headed, especially the use of metal.
Kanodia soon began designing home decor items and found a huge demand for it, especially in Kolkata. “The city has the best artisans,” he says. Kanodia never underwent any formal training, but used his contacts overseas and worked in factories and shopfloors to get hands-on, practical training-and that shows in the minutest detailing that goes into each piece. Spacio has an unusual collection of clocks, wall murals and even designer nameplates. The tableware and vases are also pretty popular.
