You see that flash of gold Rolex or the trusty leather band of an HMT. Watches, even when hidden behind cuffs of formal shirts are for many the equivalent of wearing one’s personality on one’s sleeve. “But if you invest in your watches, then why not in your clocks?” asks Praveen Kanodia, 43, director, Just For Clocks, who stocks a range of high end designer clocks sourced from niche clockmakers and designers across the world.
In Kolkata, Just For Clocks’s display is spread out over three storeys of Spacio, an interiors showroom that Kanodia is the director of along with brother Navin Kanodia, 44. A clock is not just a clock here, promises Kanodia. “It’s a conversation starter. It can be a piece of art or be a part of your attitude that represents your lifestyle philosophy,” he says.
Take for instance, clocks by Nomon, a family-owned company from Barcelona who make exquisitely crafted, minimalistic pieces. These pieces by Nomon can be installed as per requirement with sleek smooth steel hands that can be used to cover an entire two storey wall of your duplex apartment or used to accentuate well-lit corners of your home. If you’re a Feng Shui enthusiast and would like a touch of good luck, check out the collection by Haoshi. Haoshi Design, a Chinese literally means “good things“.
“In our daily life, emotions are often affected by trifles easily, and it becomes easy to neglect some good vibes around us which can bring us joyfulness and satisfaction. So we add a purity and peace into our design concept,” says Griffi n Yang, Haoshi Design. They are known for their ‘The Swallow Clock‘ where twelve swallow birds of different sizes surround the hands of a clock bringing a touch of whimsical to your interiors. Their most recent collection is also a limited edition called Goldfish.
Nine goldfish take a clockwise trip around the centre of the clock in this collection. “It can be mounted anywhere or on any surface and both the number nine as well as the symbol of goldfish are believed to bring prosperity. They also have an edition for this in gold finish of which there are only 38 pieces,” says Kanodia. A clock can cost anything between Rs 1,500 to Rs 1.5 lakhs here and you can get anything that suits your style.
