Bomma – The Czech lighting Honcho

Bomma, the traditional Czech glassmaking craft is now in India exclusively available with us. Having centuries of experience in East Bohemia Bomma is now filled with rich pool of talent and top-level skills. Instead of simply maintaining these traditions, Bomma since 2012 moves a step beyond and sets today’s highest standards of glassmaking. Bomma emphasis on contemporary design, outstanding glass quality and detail brought them many awards and world-wide recognition in a surprisingly short period of time. Today in our blog page the brand in focus is Bomma and we will dive in details in two most exquisite designs of pendant lights from its collection namely Lantern and Tied-up romance.

Wielgus & Plecháč

The duo designer met while studying at AAAD Prague (Academy of Arts Prague). Jan was awarded the Elle Décor International Award and Discovery of the Year at the Czech Grand Design Awards. In 2012 Jan and Henry founded Studio Jan Plechac & Henry Wielgus. Their work transcends the barriers between art, architecture and design. Their clients includes Rossana Orlandi Gallery Milan, Mint Shop London, Luminaire, Lasvit, Cappellini, Menu etc.

Beauty in contradiction

The provoking aesthetic of bondage highlights both the fragility and the solidity of glass. Crystal elements are tightly bound in meticulously crafted leather and horsehair. Tied-Up Romance celebrates the world of contradictions and the fluid essence of glass.

Kateřina Handlová

Kateřina Hadlová is a graduate of the Atelier of glass at AAAD Prague (Academy of Arts Prague). She combines glass with different materials such as leather, ropes or porcelain to create objects that mediate her personal experiences as well as her fascination with world of Haute Couture. Kateřina finds beauty in quality craftsmanship which explains her passion for detail. She loves glass for its unique character, problems and advantages. With her original artistic approach she is definitely one of the most gifted and remarkable young Czech glass designers.

An article on Nappe pendant light by designer Marco Zito from Masiero

The Nappe pendant & XL lights are part of Masiero’s Dimore collection which recently got featured in top interior magazine published in India. The Nappe lights is described as the big decorative tassels that brings together and adorn the historical palaces’ curtains, are reinterpreted, summarized and decomposed to delete every classical assets and obtain contemporary designed elements. The tassels gives a very modern and minimalist design, intensified by the touch-effect matt pastel finishing, even if a total white finishing is available. In short Nappe is painted metal frame with metal beams or glass diffusors LED lighting.

In 1981, Paolo Masiero and Marliena Pellizzato founded Emme Pi Light in Consico di Casale sul Sile (Treviso), Italy.
